Exciting Changes in Region 10 High School Football This Season!

Salt Lake City has been buzzing with excitement as the 2025-26 school year heralds a whole new chapter in the Region 10 high school football scene. With teams moving around and new faces stepping in, there are plenty of stories worth sharing!

Fresh Faces and Familiar Tunes

Out with the old and in with the new! Only three teams from last year—Murray, Jordan, and Cottonwood—are staying put in the new Region 10. Joining them this year are the East, Skyline, Highland, and Juan Diego, shaking things up for high school football fans.

Just last season, Stansbury clinched the region title, but they’ve made the jump to Region 11. This leaves room for some major competition in the newly reshaped Region 10. Early buzz suggests that East High is the team to beat, but what’s led to this prediction? Well, coaches have their eyes on them after they finished fourth in Region 6 last season with a 3-3 in-region record and an overall tale of 6-6.

Fresh Leadership at East High

There’s been quite a shuffle on the coaching front too! Longtime head coach Brandon Matich decided to hang up his whistle after an impressive 15-year tenure, during which he led East to two state championships in the glorious years of 2015 and 2016. Now, Joe Tukuafu, a familiar face from BYU football, is stepping in to take the reins. Excitement is definitely in the air at East with hopes high for another successful season!

Skyline’s Bounce Back Plan

Looking at the results from last season, Skyline struggled tremendously, finishing with a 1-10 record. But don’t count them out! Head coach Marcus Mailei is in his second season and believes a new approach coupled with returning players will set them on the right path. With a revamped offense that averaged just 8 points per game last season, they’re ready to tackle their defensive woes of allowing 39.7 points per game. Key players to keep an eye on include running back Jonah Meilei and wide receivers Alex Brown and Luke Frey.

Murray’s Steady Climb

On a positive note, Murray is projected to land in third place this season after finishing with an impressive 6-5 record last year. Quarterback Phil Holland is coming back fired up after throwing for 342 yards and 7 touchdowns, and wide receiver Evan Talbot is returning with 575 yards and 4 touchdowns under his belt. There’s a hopeful buzz around Murray as they prepare to make their mark in Region 10!

Highland’s New Beginning

Next up, Highland makes its transition from 5A’s Region 6 to Region 10, and the excitement among fans is palpable! The Rams have faced significant challenges since 2020, with a record of 12-37 over the last three seasons. Coach Kautai Olevao is thrilled about this fresh competition and believes returning seven offensive starters and six defensive starters will boost their performance.

Fresh Faces at Juan Diego

Juan Diego, moving up from 3A North, is predicted to finish fifth in the new region after coach Danny Larson guided them to a 6-6 record last season. Youthfulness will be the name of the game for Juan Diego, as they will rely on many sophomores stepping into key roles this time around!

Jordan and Cottonwood’s Confidence Boost

Jordan, on the other hand, is banking on about 15 returning starters to help turn things around after a rough spell since their last winning season in 2018. Coach Marc Albertson is keen to find that consistency they so desperately need.

Poor Cottonwood, unfortunately, is dealing with its own struggles after finishing last in the preseason poll and not securing a single win last season (0-10). Their defense allowed a staggering average of 44.7 points per game, so it’s clear they need some work to get back on track!

The Road Ahead

As we gear up for the kickoff of this thrilling season, the big question is: Who will emerge as the champion of the revamped Region 10? Keep your eyes peeled as these teams take to the field, ready to give it their all!
