Miami Secures Defensive Star Zach Sieler with Extension
Miami, FL – The Miami Dolphins have made a significant move to bolster their defense by locking in defensive tackle Zach Sieler for the long term. Reports confirm that the team has reached an agreement with Sieler on a three-year, $64 million extension, which includes $44 million guaranteed. This deal ensures that Sieler will continue to play a pivotal role in Miami’s defensive lineup.
Sieler, who joined the Dolphins in 2019 after being claimed off waivers from the Baltimore Ravens, has established himself as a key player on the team. Over his seven seasons in Miami, he has developed into a full-time starter, particularly shining in the last two seasons. Last year, Sieler had an impressive season, with his stats showcasing 55 tackles, 10 sacks, one interception, and one forced fumble. This achievement marks the second consecutive year he has reached the double-digit sack milestone, a feat last accomplished by Cameron Wake in 2016-2017.
In addition to recording strong individual statistics, Sieler ranked 14th among defensive linemen with 46 pressures, according to Pro Football Focus. This increased production came in a year where the Dolphins faced challenges, including injuries to key pass rushers like Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb.
The Dolphins’ defensive lineup is expected to see some changes this season, having added new players like safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and linebacker K.J. Britt, along with the drafting of defensive tackles Kenneth Grant and Jordan Phillips. With the new additions and Sieler’s leadership on the field, Miami hopes to enhance their defensive capabilities as they aim for a successful season.
With the recent contract extension, Sieler can focus on his performance without financial distractions as he enters his eighth NFL season. The Dolphins are optimistic about his continued impact on their defensive strategy moving forward.
