Seattle Welcomes Sam Darnold to the Seahawks
Seattle, WA – The NFL has announced its list of Top Players for 2025, and in a notable achievement, Sam Darnold has made the cut at No. 72. This marks the first time in Darnold’s career that he has been recognized on this prestigious list. His breakout performance during the 2024 season with the Minnesota Vikings played a significant role in earning this honor.
In 2024, Darnold had a stellar season, throwing for 4,319 yards and registering 35 touchdowns versus just 12 interceptions. He achieved a career-best passer rating of 102.5 and facilitated the Vikings’ impressive 14-3 record. His hard work and dedication also led to his selection for his first Pro Bowl.
Seahawks’ head coach Mike Macdonald praised Darnold’s character, stating, “The thing you love about Sam is he is just a dude, man. He’s like one of the guys… There’s a sense that he’s one of the guys, so he’s right there with them in all the things.” He also highlighted Darnold’s competitiveness, saying, “But he’s him. He’s not trying to be anybody else, and you have to respect that about him.”
In another strong endorsement, Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell commented on Darnold’s growth, asserting, “I think what I’m most proud of with where Sam is at in his quarterback journey now is I think he is as close to where he belongs in this league. There’s a lot of really good things Sam’s going to bring to the Seahawks.”
Darnold, who began his NFL journey as the third overall pick by the New York Jets in 2018, has had stints with the Panthers, 49ers, and Vikings before joining the Seahawks on a multi-year deal on March 13, 2025. Alongside him, defensive lineman Leonard Williams also made it to the NFL’s Top 100 Players of 2025 list.
As the Seahawks gear up for the upcoming season, the additions of Darnold and Williams have fans excited about what they can bring to the team’s dynamics. With Darnold’s proven abilities and Williams’ defensive prowess, Seattle seems set to chase more victories in the season ahead.
