Excitement Builds in Baltimore for Aspiring Lacrosse Stars
In the bustling city of Baltimore, nearly 175 talented high school girls’ lacrosse players are gearing up for an exhilarating opportunity that lies just around the corner! These young athletes have received the green light to attend the coveted USA Lacrosse National Team Development Program National Combine, set to take place at the USA Lacrosse headquarters from July 28-31, 2025.
A Pathway to Greatness
The invitations to this prestigious combine were not just handed out arbitrarily. Players were carefully selected based on their performances at a series of regional ID clinics, as well as through a virtual application process. They were also chosen from a pool of players who showcased their skills on last year’s U.S. Youth National Teams. It’s a significant honor and an amazing chance for these young ladies to strengthen their skills and make some lifelong memories.
The Big Goal: National Teams
What’s even more exciting is that from this combine, only 24 players will be chosen to represent the U17 and U19 U.S. Youth National Teams. The stakes are high, but so is the enthusiasm among these aspiring lacrosse stars. Following their selection, the teams will be competing in two major events scheduled for this fall, which will take place right at the USA Lacrosse headquarters. The matches include:
- The Rivalry Challenge against Lacrosse Canada’s youth national teams from September 18-21.
- The Brogden Cup, where they’ll face off against the Haudenosaunee Nationals and Team Ontario from October 24-26.
Building Skills for the Future
Launched in 2019, the National Team Development Program was created to give young players top-notch training and help them adapt to the structures of the national team system. This program plays a vital role in shaping the next generation of elite lacrosse players. In fact, over 80% of the U.S. U20 team that clinched the gold medal in 2024 at the Hong Kong championship had previously participated in this very program.
The Winners of Tomorrow
The benefits of the National Team Development Program can already be seen in the success of the U.S. women’s senior team, which recently triumphed in the 2025 Pan-American championship, boasting eight players who are proud alumni of the U.S. Youth National Teams. These skilled athletes include names like Shea Baker and Rachel Clark, who are now shining stars on the international stage!
Support and Sponsorship
Behind the scenes, many organizations are lending their support to this initiative, including Capelli Sport, Gait Lacrosse, STX, MedStar Health, and several others. All contributing to ensure these rising stars have the best resources available to them. Additionally, the funding for the national teams is generously provided by donors to the USA Lacrosse Foundation, ensuring these programs can continue to thrive and produce outstanding athletes.
A Community of Passion
USA Lacrosse stands tall as a recognized nonprofit organization affiliated with the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee and is dedicated to serving as the governing body for both men’s and women’s lacrosse in the United States. With over 425,000 members across the country, the commitment to growing the sport and supporting its players is unwavering.
As the days draw closer to the National Combine, there’s no doubt that both players and coaches are filled with anticipation. The atmosphere will be charged with talent, teamwork, and aspirations as these young women take another step closer to achieving their dreams in the world of lacrosse!
