Under his supervision, Florida Memorial ranked sixth in the nation for blocks per game, averaging an impressive 5.0, and was also 16th for rebounds per game with a solid 41.5. Originally hailing from Detroit, Michigan, Shaw was an All-City basketball player at Detroit Pershing High School where he not only showcased his skills but also helped his team achieve an astounding 88-9 record and win four consecutive Eastside Conference championships. He began his collegiate playing career at Bismarck State College in North Dakota, where he quickly gained recognition as one of the country’s outstanding junior college players. Later, he transferred to the University of Sioux Falls in South Dakota, and under his leadership, the team made it to the NAIA Final Four in 2004.
