Miami Football Coach Teddy Bridgewater Suspended
Miami, Florida – Miami Northwestern High School football coach Teddy Bridgewater has been suspended after admitting to providing his players with impermissible benefits, according to a social media post he made recently. This news follows his announcement of retirement from the NFL back in February 2024.
Bridgewater expressed his frustration on Facebook, stating, “Damn people done caused all this confusion. Got a phone call tonight and it’s no real investigation going on.” He clarified that while paperwork issues remain, there are no active investigations into his conduct. “We SELF REPORTED,” he emphasized.
The suspension is thought to stem from a post made on July 7, where Bridgewater revealed that he had been covering expenses like transportation, meals, and recovery-related costs for his players throughout the 2024 season. In that same post, he encouraged supporters to help fund these expenses so that he wouldn’t have to bear the full financial burden alone.
Throughout his career, Bridgewater transitioned from a local standout in Miami to a first-round NFL Draft pick by the Minnesota Vikings, following a successful college career at Louisville. However, after suffering a severe knee injury in 2016, he had to fight hard to come back, eventually starting for teams like the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos. He also played for the New York Jets, New Orleans Saints, Miami Dolphins, and Detroit Lions before retiring to dive into coaching.
Despite having a single successful season at Miami Northwestern, leading the team to a state championship, this suspension brings about challenges as he pursues his coaching career. Bridgewater, who is now 32, had a brief return to the NFL when he re-signed with the Lions in December 2024.
