Right now, you have the chance to vote for the all-time top high school football program in the Statesman Journal coverage area! The poll is open until 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23, so make sure to get your voice heard!
Which Programs are in the Running?
Among the nominees, you’ll find programs that have not only racked up multiple state titles but have also made countless semifinal appearances. Isn’t that impressive? Let’s take a look at some of the key contenders and their achievements:
- 7 State Titles: This powerhouse won titles in 1947, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, and 2009! With an incredible 12 semifinal appearances, they’ve been a force in the B and 2A divisions.
- 2 State Titles: With championships in 1980 and 2015, this team has shown its strength in the AA and 4A classifications with a solid 10 semifinal appearances under their belt.
- 4 State Titles: Dominating in the 1960s and 1980s, this squad grabbed first place in 1960, 1962, 1967, and 1983, plus they’ve advanced to the semifinals a staggering 14 times!
- 7 State Titles: This team has an impressive record from 1948 to 2012, coached by legends like Dewey Sullivan, and made an astonishing 21 semifinal appearances.
