Sioux Falls, S.D. – South Dakota State University (SDSU) football is currently experiencing a remarkable period of talent development, resulting in a significant number of players reaching the NFL. Over the years, SDSU has produced notable NFL alumni, including Hall of Famer Jim Langer and soon-to-be Hall of Famer Adam Vinatieri.
Since SDSU transitioned to Division One in 2004, the program has enjoyed an impressive surge in NFL representation. More than a third of its 38 all-time NFL players—14 in total—have emerged during this time. Particularly impressive is the figure that has developed since 2015, with 12 Jackrabbit graduates reaching football’s highest level. This is by far the most players the school has sent to the NFL in a ten-year span and there’s potential for that number to grow even further this season.
One notable player, Christian Rozeboom, is preparing to kick off his fifth NFL season. He began his career at SDSU during this flourishing period and expressed surprise at the number of former teammates and fellow alumni now competing on Sundays. “It’s like a norm now,” Rozeboom explained. “You don’t even think of how crazy it probably is to have a small school with that many guys in the league.” He further added that he always supports his fellow Jackrabbits, even if they find themselves on opposing teams.
As Christian Rozeboom gets ready for his first training camp with the Carolina Panthers, starting on July 22nd, he reflects on his journey and the pride he feels for his alma mater. “It’s a thing where you’re proud of where you came from,” he noted.
As the season approaches, it’s clear that SDSU football is experiencing a golden age in terms of player development, and this trend is ongoing. Fans will be keeping a close eye on the Jackrabbits making their mark in the NFL.
