Jason Pierre-Paul Eyes NFL Return After Injury
New York City – After a decade since a tragic fireworks accident that resulted in the loss of 2.5 fingers, edge rusher Jason Pierre-Paul is setting his sights on making a comeback to the NFL. At 36 years old, Pierre-Paul is determined to return to the field, sharing his aspirations with ESPN. Although he didn’t join a team last season, he has been diligently training and staying in football shape, hoping for another chance to play.
One of his top wishes is to return to the New York Giants, the team that drafted him in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft. Pierre-Paul expressed his excitement, saying, “I think that’ll be dope. Tremendous. To go back somewhere where my career started … the fans know me and know the type of player that I am. I’ll always be that type of player and just give ’em everything I got, which I know it’ll be more than enough.”
Pierre-Paul made a name for himself during his eight seasons with the Giants, notably winning his first Super Bowl in 2011 and being named a first-team All-Pro after achieving a career-high of 16.5 sacks that same season. However, his career took a turn in July 2015 when a fireworks mishap injured his right hand. Despite this, he fought through adversity to return to the Giants later that year and continued with the team until 2017.
In 2018, Pierre-Paul was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he had a successful initial season, racking up 12.5 sacks. His hard work paid off again in 2020 as he celebrated another Super Bowl victory with the Buccaneers. Pierre-Paul last played in the NFL during the 2023 season, appearing in games for the New Orleans Saints and the Miami Dolphins.
As Pierre-Paul continues to chase his football dreams, fans will surely be watching closely to see if he can reclaim his spot in the league and possibly return to the team that started it all.
