NCAA Players Shine in 2025 NHL Draft
Los Angeles – The 2025 NHL Draft proved to be a significant event for college hockey, as a remarkable total of seventy-six current, committed, and former NCAA Division I players were selected. This year’s draft saw the highest number of college players chosen since the NHL switched to its seven-round format in 2005.
On Saturday, rounds two through seven were buzzing with excitement as sixty-six players were picked. This followed a thrilling first round on Friday when ten players made their way into the NHL. In total, twenty-seven different NCAA schools had at least one player or recruit selected, indicating the depth of talent in college hockey.
Leading the pack was Michigan with an impressive eight selections. Not far behind was Boston University, which secured seven picks. Both Michigan State and North Dakota had six players drafted, while Minnesota and Penn State each had five players join the ranks of new NHL talent.
In an exciting showcase, five of the seven rounds had at least ten college hockey players taken, with rounds two and seven being particularly noteworthy, as each featured thirteen selections.
