Exciting Times Ahead for Wyoming’s Junior Golf Stars!
GILLETTE, WY – The tension was palpable as the Wyoming State Golf Association (WSGA) Championships unfolded in mid-June, showcasing some of the state’s most talented young golfers. After an exhilarating competition, the four-person teams for the upcoming Junior Americas Cup Golf Tournaments have been announced, and things are shaping up nicely for these promising athletes!
Girls’ Team is Set
Leading the charge for the girls’ team is none other than Tazlyn Wagner from Kemmerer, who displayed remarkable talent by clinching the State Championship with impressive scores of 80-89-78. This victory is quite special, as Wagner also made a splash last year by winning the Wyoming 2A State Championship as a freshman! What a thrilling start to her high school career!
Following closely behind, Shelbi Gardner from Sheridan showcased her skills by finishing in second place, just two strokes adrift with rounds of 87-83-79. Meanwhile, Addison Bettinger from Buffalo wrapped up third with scores of 87-86-92. Rounding out the girls’ roster, Madison Brown from Evanston secured the final spot with steady performances of 92-89-85. What a fantastic showing from these talented ladies!
Impressive Accomplishments
Each of the top girls has an impressive background. Gardner’s performance in the 4A State Tournament, where she finished second, speaks to her capabilities, while Brown proved her mettle by ending up sixth. In a great turn of events, Bettinger also made her mark with a third-place finish at the 3A State Tournament. Most certainly, this core group of young women is set to make Wyoming proud!
Boys’ Team Represents with Pride
On the boys’ side, the competition has also heated up, and the team features Ryker Lind from Evanston, Carson Moniz from Laramie, Tate Nichols from Wheatland, and Cade Peterson from Campbell County. Lind, the 4A State Champion from last fall, turned heads in Gillette with remarkable rounds of 68-72-72, finishing a stellar four under par.
Moniz showcased his talent by taking second place with a steady even par and rounds of 71-72-73, placing fourth at the 4A State Tournament. Meanwhile, Nichols, the defending 3A State Champion, finished third at Gillette, battling fiercely to record rounds of 77-72-70, finishing at 3 over. Finally, Peterson wrapped up the team with rounds of 72-74-74, securing the 23rd spot at the 4A State Tournament. Quite a talented lineup we have here!
