Golfers Making Waves

On June 12, 2025, the Big South Conference secretary Andy Ourada announced that junior golfer Matt DeBates was recognized as the only male golfer from his school to achieve all-Big South Conference honors. His aspirations to play collegiate golf are on track as he finishes the season with commendable achievements. His participation in the Minnesota State High School League Section 3AA Tournament highlighted his skills, as he secured the 16th spot overall with a score of 13-over par 157.

But that’s not all! DeBates made a notable impression throughout his high school career by recording a whopping 34 birdies and parring 195 holes. This recognition is not just a trophy on a shelf; it’s proof to him that he can hold his own against formidable competitors within the league.

And let’s not forget about Vivian Brockberg, an inspiring golfer who is making history as the first Pipestone golfer of either gender to qualify for the MSHSL Class AA state tournament since 2023. She had an impressive performance, with an opening round of 91 and a total score of 191 over two rounds at the state tournament. Her season was marked by significant improvements in her short game, leading her to achieve six birdies and 99 pars.

Softball Stars Shine Bright

Kaysa Douty, a sophomore, left her mark by being honored with multiple accolades including a spot on the Class AA second team by the Minnesota Fastpitch Coaches Association, and also recognition as an all-Section 3AA player. Douty’s pitching record stood strong at 5-5 with an earned-run average of 3.76 across 65 innings, during which she struck out an impressive 94 batters. Additionally, her performance on the field was nothing short of spectacular, making 30 putouts and achieving a remarkable .970 fielding percentage. Her batting statistics were also notable with a stellar .488 batting average, 15 doubles, and 19 RBIs.

Mariah Moeller, another standout player from Pipestone, was recognized with first-team all-league accolades and even participated in the MFCA all-star games.
