Greenfield’s Legion Baseball Season Kicks Off with a Tough Loss
Greenfield may have been buzzing with excitement as the Post 81 Senior American Legion team kicked off its season, but alas, the day didn’t quite go as planned. The boys hit the road to take on Pittsfield Post 68 at Clapp Park, where hope was in the air along with a few nervous butterflies. What followed was a tense game that many would describe as a pitchers’ duel.
Pittsfield managed to scrape together 2 runs, scoring one in the third inning and another in the sixth inning. Greenfield, on the other hand, struggled to find their rhythm and couldn’t get on the scoreboard, leading to a hard-fought 2-0 loss. Hugh Cyhowski was on the mound for Greenfield and certainly put in a strong performance, pitching all six innings and striking out an impressive five batters while allowing only three hits.
While the scoreboard may not have favored Greenfield, the team did manage to rack up four hits during the match. Ben Caron stood out with a double, while teammates Sam Connors, Braeden Tsipenyuk, and Shawn Baumann each contributed with singles. Even though it wasn’t the start they had hoped for, there’s always room to regroup and come back stronger in the next game!
Exciting Youth Soccer Clinics Coming This August
On a brighter note, sports enthusiasts in Greenfield can look forward to some amazing opportunities just around the corner! The Greenfield boys and girls high school soccer teams are hosting youth soccer clinics from August 4-8. This is a fantastic chance for young athletes to improve their game!
For those planning to attend, the cost for the full week of clinics is $100, and there will even be a scheduled lunch break. Lunch options will be available for order through Greenfield Public Schools Food Services, but you’ll want to make sure you register in advance to secure your spot!
If you’re interested in signing up, you can get in touch with the Greenfield boys varsity coach via email or phone. But remember, the registration deadline is coming up fast on July 20!
