Miami – Former NFL player Antonio Brown is now facing serious legal troubles as he has been charged with attempted murder following a shooting incident in Miami. The altercation reportedly took place outside an amateur boxing event on May 16, where Brown, age 36, is accused of grabbing a handgun from a security staff member and firing two shots at an individual he had been in a fistfight with moments earlier.
The victim, identified as Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, informed investigators that one of the bullets grazed his neck during the chaotic incident. According to the arrest warrant, Brown does not have an attorney listed and has not responded to messages on his social media accounts. Brown was previously recognized as an All-Pro wide receiver and last played in the NFL for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021, after a 12-year career that primarily included time with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Brown now faces a second-degree attempted murder charge, which carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. This incident is just one of many legal issues Brown has encountered. His history includes accusations of battery against a moving truck driver, multiple domestic violence charges, and failure to pay child support.
During a game in 2021, Brown made headlines after abruptly leaving the field in a dramatic fashion by removing his jersey, shoulder pads, and gloves, leading to his release from the Buccaneers. After that incident, his former teammate, quarterback Tom Brady, spoke out, expressing concern for Brown’s well-being and urging people to show compassion for him.
According to the arrest warrant, police were called to the boxing venue after attendees reported hearing gunfire. Although Brown was detained initially, officers found no weapon at the scene but did locate two bullet casings. He was released because the victim was not immediately identified. It was later revealed that Nantambu was the person involved.
Surveillance footage reportedly captured the confrontation, showing Brown engaged in a struggle with security staff before allegedly retrieving a firearm. Cellphone videos showed Brown brandishing the weapon and firing shots at a close distance. Nantambu identified Brown as the shooter and stated that he had known him since 2022.
After the incident, Brown took to social media to claim he was “jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me.” With a career marked by incredible accomplishments, including 928 receptions for over 12,291 yards and 88 touchdowns, Brown’s journey has hit significant turbulence. He is a seven-time Pro Bowl selection and was part of the team that won the Super Bowl in 2021.
