This year, the two teams together amassed a whopping 16 All-MRAC selections, marking them as the shining stars of the region!

Boys Team Shines Bright

The boys soccer team came oh-so-close to clinching the title, finishing as the Class 2A runners-up with an outstanding record of 18 wins and 3 losses, while dominating their conference with 6 wins and just 1 loss. One player who stood out was senior Sergio Mijangos, who topped the charts state-wide with a jaw-dropping 46 goals this season. Mijangos has also made a commitment to play soccer at Bellevue University, a fitting next step for the talented athlete.

Alongside Mijangos on the first-team All-MRAC roster are senior players Gabe Newberg, Andres Gonzalez, Dylan Karnes, and Cesar DeLeon. Newberg showcased his skills by netting 17 goals and assisting 11 times, while Gonzalez dazzled fans with an impressive tally of 21 goals and 27 assists—the latter being the highest in the state!

Star senior Trelyn White was a force to be reckoned with, securing 43 goals and finishing at the top of the MRAC leaderboard. White is already on her way to Drake University to continue her soccer career, proving she has a bright future ahead!

Other exceptional players included Jaida Douch, with a remarkable contribution of 24 goals and 21 assists, and junior Reese Bleeker, who earned her first team status with 10 goals and 9 assists. The defensive side of things was well-covered, as senior defenders Kylie Gengler and Claudia Lavariega also earned first team recognition. In goal, senior Abby Lee shone brightly, allowing a mere 3 goals throughout the season, sealing her spot on the first team as well.

Further complementing the girls’ success, seniors Maddie LaFleur and Emily Vargas combined forces with impressive assists and goals, earning them second team accolades.

Across Siouxland, 35 players were recognized with All-MRAC selections. The next closest school was Sioux City North, with a total of 11 selections.
