This past Saturday was nothing short of thrilling as athletes from all over gathered at the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus for the highly anticipated OHSAA state track and field meet. Competitors battled it out in finals races across three divisions, with a buzzing atmosphere that could be felt throughout the stadium.

Twinsburg Girls Make Their Mark

The excitement kicked off with the girls’ 1,600 relay team from Twinsburg, who showcased their incredible skills to finish in fifth place with a respectable time of 3:53.19. Their determination and heart were evident as they raced to the finish line.

Boys’ 1,600 Relay Breaks Records

Meanwhile, the boys’ relay team from Twinsburg was stealing the spotlight! Comprising of Sam Taneja, Isaiah Calloway, Steffon Mosley, and Sam Hopp, they not only finished strong in seventh place but also set a new school record with an impressive clocking of 3:17.56. Among the standout performances was Ryder Kessick, a senior from Hudson, who achieved his best high school race! He finished seventh in the 3,200 meters with an incredible personal record of 9:03.55. His hard work certainly paid off!

Nordonia’s Sarah Marchant made waves as well by improving her performance from previous years, moving from eighth place last year to seventh in the pole vault with a clearance of 12 feet. What a comeback!

In the Division II boys’ 800 meters, Buchtel’s Dwight Shade ran a personal best of 1:54.4, finishing a commendable fourth place. Meanwhile, Woodridge’s Marissa Boone secured All-Ohio honors by finishing second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:12.55 and fourth in the 1,600 meters at 4:54.12.

Also shining bright were CVCA’s Joelle Cherry, who finished second in the 300 hurdles with a school-record time of 43.86, and Miniya Mitchell from Buchtel, who took sixth in the 400 meters with an impressive personal best time of 56.9 seconds.

Hudson’s Drake Vander Cica wasn’t to be outdone either, placing third in the Division I boys’ shot put with a mighty throw of 58 feet, 2 inches.

Wrapping up the honors, CVCA’s Kylee Zamecnik earned third place in the girls’ long jump with a jump measuring 17 feet, 11 inches, and their teammate Niles Nuru cleared an impressive 6 feet 4 inches to finish fourth in the boys’ high jump.
