Houston has officially welcomed C.J. Gardner-Johnson to its roster as he embarks on his third team in as many seasons. After a successful Super Bowl run with the Philadelphia Eagles, the team underwent various changes this offseason. Notably, general manager Howie Roseman made the significant decision to trade Gardner-Johnson to the Houston Texans in exchange for guard Kenyon Green and some draft picks.

Recently, Gardner-Johnson expressed his feelings about the trade, voicing a sense of disrespect due to his departure. “I feel highly disrespected, but it’s a business,” he told Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2. He pointed out that despite not being an “All-Pro or Pro Bowl,” he led the league in interceptions during his time with the Eagles. “What more do you want?” he questioned. Gardner-Johnson, who has already won one Super Bowl, remains optimistic, stating, “I got three more championships in me. I’m probably going to win the next three. Just watch.”

The NFL is known for its business-like nature, and Gardner-Johnson’s candid remarks reflect that reality. He joined the Eagles from the New Orleans Saints in 2022, where he had an impressive season as a defensive back, demonstrating his skills by tying for the league lead in interceptions. However, despite his contributions, the Eagles fell short in Super Bowl LVII against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Following a brief stint with the Detroit Lions, where he faced injuries that limited his playtime, Gardner-Johnson returned to Philadelphia on a three-year contract. He played a crucial role in leading the Eagles to their second Super Bowl title against Kansas City.

Now in Houston, Gardner-Johnson joins a talented defensive unit under head coach DeMeco Ryans, featuring stars like All-Pro cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. and safety Jalen Pitre. Gardner-Johnson has acknowledged Houston’s progress in the AFC but is eager to contribute more to the team’s success. “I mean, you guys played a lot of good ball here, but I don’t think they understand what it means to win when it matters,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of winning championships, especially as he matures in his career.

Gardner-Johnson’s trade is part of significant roster changes in Philadelphia, which also saw the loss of several key players to free agency. Although Gardner-Johnson was not part of the Eagles’ long-term plans, he remains focused on making his mark with the Texans, aiming to help them secure their first Super Bowl title.

Meanwhile, in Houston, reports indicate that Nick Chubb, previously with the Cleveland Browns, may be signing with the Texans soon. The NFL continues to evolve as teams prepare for the upcoming season.
