The Cleveland Browns have been making headlines this offseason as they focus on improving their quarterback situation. Their first significant move came when they acquired Kenny Pickett through a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles. However, early reports from organized team activities (OTAs) indicate that Pickett’s performance may not be as strong as the team had hoped. According to ESPN Cleveland’s Aaron Goldhammer, there are whispers around the facility labeling Pickett as the “consensus worst player” among the quarterbacks in the roster.
Goldhammer stated, “Consensus worst player at OTAs, Kenny Pickett.” Currently, the Browns have four quarterbacks vying for a spot on the roster. Alongside Pickett, veteran Joe Flacco has rejoined the team on a one-year deal. The Browns also drafted two new quarterbacks, Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders, in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Interestingly, reports from Goldhammer suggest Flacco is making a strong impression. He noted, “Best quarterback at OTAs yesterday from what I heard… consensus best quarterback, Joe Flacco.” With the upcoming training camp, speculation arises about who will be the odd man out if the team decides to carry only three quarterbacks. The buzz is growing around Pickett possibly being that player, and trade rumors are heating up.
NFL Insider Mike Florio shed light on the situation, saying, “I don’t think they’re taking those four to camp. I think one of those guys will be gone, traded or cut…” He predicted the Browns might trade Pickett before the camp begins. Pickett, who was a first-round pick in 2022, previously spent two years with the Pittsburgh Steelers before being traded to the Eagles, where he served as a backup quarterback during the team’s successful Super Bowl run.
As the offseason progresses, all eyes will be on the Cleveland Browns and their quarterback situation. Will Kenny Pickett have a chance to turn things around, or will he be looking for a new team before the start of the season? The answers may start to unfold as training camp approaches.
