It’s summer in Taft, and you know what that means! The sun is shining, the pools are sparkling, and the Taft Tigersharks Swim Club is making waves as it kicks off its summer season. This popular swim club is open for business, inviting young swimmers aged 4 to 18 to dive into fun and fitness. Not only does the club offer year-round swimming training, but it also gives kids the chance to compete at various meets throughout the year.

Summer Meets Are Here!

The excitement is palpable as the first summer meet is just around the corner! Scheduled for June 7 at the Norman Boyd Vincent Memorial Pool, the Tigersharks will go head-to-head against other local swim teams such as the Aqua Aces Swim Club, Bakersfield Aquatics Club, Bakersfield Swim Academy, and many more.

This summer, eleven talented Tigersharks will be showcasing their skills in a total of 26 races. The camaraderie is already building among the swimmers as they prepare to make their mark in the water.

Welcoming Swimmers of All Skill Levels

One of the best things about the Tigersharks Swim Club is its welcoming attitude towards swimmers of all skill levels. Whether you’re a seasoned swimmer or haven’t dipped your toes into the water before, the Tigersharks is the perfect place to start. Absolutely no prior swimming experience is required to join.

For those just starting out, the club has introduced the Tigerpups program, which focuses on swim safety for beginner swimmers. Under the watchful eye of skilled coaches, these little swimmers start their journey to becoming full-fledged Tigersharks.

A Rich History of Swimming Excellence

The Tigersharks Swim Club has a rich history that’s been making waves since the 1970s. With an impressive safety record, parents can rest easy knowing their children are in good hands. Summer practices run Monday through Friday, giving young swimmers plenty of time to hone their skills. Meanwhile, winter practices from January to April follow a Monday to Thursday schedule.

Meet the Coaching Team

The coaching staff is a powerhouse of talent and experience! For the Tigerpups, coaches Emily Phillips and Nancy Woodson lead the charge. For those starting as beginner Tigersharks, coach Cat Beilby is ready to help them take the plunge. And who better to lead the whole program than Kaylee McDonel, a former Tigershark herself? With a wealth of coaching experience, she is dedicated to shaping the swimmers of tomorrow.

Community Engagement

The Tigersharks also strive to connect with the local community by accepting donations and spreading the word through flyers distributed to schools. This engagement helps keep the swim club thriving and accessible to all children in Taft.

Current Tigersharks Swimmers

On the Men’s roster, we’ve got talented athletes such as Rydin Frakes, Hayden Hanks, and Talen Sanderson. The Women’s roster boasts impressive swimmers like Zoie Jane Anglin, Penelope Romero, and Emily White. Together, these young athletes reflect the club’s strong tradition of competitive swimming.

High School Swim Success

Adding to the excitement, the upcoming Taft Union High School swimming season in 2025 looks promising, thanks to its talented swimmers, including Kimber Crabb and Cooper Golling, who each earned over 20 gold medals across various competitions. The high school team brought home a stunning total of 99 gold medals and 184 medals overall!

The women’s team has participated in both individual and team events, achieving significant milestones at the SSL Championships and Valley Championships. The club anticipates a strong performance next year and is excited about the possibility of welcoming new talent from the Tigersharks program.
