Green Township, Ohio witnessed a surprising incident over the weekend involving NFL long snapper Jake McQuaide. During a Sunday Mass at Our Lady of the Visitation, McQuaide confronted church officials about allegations that a local priest had used a parish computer to access pornography. This confrontation led to the involvement of the Green Township police, who were requested by the church to be present due to potential disruptions.
The situation escalated when Jason Williams, Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, addressed the congregation regarding the accusations against Rev. Martin Bachman. Williams stated that an investigation had found no wrongdoing by the priest. In a letter read during the service, Archbishop Robert Casey confirmed that all claims had been investigated and deemed unsubstantiated. The Archbishop emphasized the damage that unfounded rumors can cause, describing them as sinful and harmful.
McQuaide, who is currently a free agent after spending last season with various teams including the Miami Dolphins, stood up during Williams’ address to seek clarity on the allegations. He requested direct answers, questioning whether the rumors were “fact or fiction.” Despite being told to wait for a more appropriate time, he persisted, expressing that the current moment was indeed critical for answers. Following this, police officers escorted him out of the church, but it was confirmed by Captain Mitch Hill of the Green Township police that no charges were filed nor was McQuaide arrested.
One parishioner reported having filed a complaint after allegedly seeing what he believed to be inappropriate content on the parish computer. While he stated the images appeared legal, he felt they violated parish policies. In light of these events, Archbishop Casey noted that Rev. Bachman would be taking a short sabbatical this July, although there are no ongoing investigations concerning him.
Throughout his 14-year NFL career, McQuaide has established himself as a notable player, having spent a significant portion of that time with the now-Los Angeles Rams, where he earned two Pro Bowl selections. As a free agent, his future in football remains uncertain.
