Spruce Creek High School Tennis Teams Shine in 2024-25 Season

Daytona Beach is buzzing with excitement as Spruce Creek High School’s tennis teams have wrapped up a phenomenal season! Although the girls team fell just short of the Class 4A state semifinals after a close match against Wellington, there’s still plenty to celebrate. The Hawks have proudly earned the titles of Five Star Conference, district, and regional champions, making them the only girls tennis program from Volusia-Flagler to qualify for the state tournament. Quite an achievement!

Meanwhile, Seabreeze’s top doubles team also made headlines by reaching the state tournament after winning a district championship. However, they too faced a tough challenge by being eliminated in the semifinals of the individual draw. Still, those victories are a testament to the hard work and determination shown by all the teams.

Impressive Records Across the Board

As the season progressed, several players from various schools racked up impressive records that are definitely worth highlighting. Father Lopez concluded their season with a commendable 14-2 record, while New Smyrna Beach finished strong at 9-4. Riya Arab from Seabreeze celebrated a fantastic 7-4 record in No. 1 singles, ultimately finishing with a 10-4 season after advancing to the semifinals in the Class 3A state tournament.

On the Spruce Creek team, the standout player, Giselle Adekunle, made significant contributions with a 13-7 record in singles and an impressive 19-5 in doubles. Another young star, freshman Khloe Akopian, turned heads with a remarkable 19-1 singles record and 18-4 in No. 2 doubles. Meanwhile, junior Ofelia Stout from Father Lopez recorded a solid 13-1 in No. 1 singles along with 7-2 in doubles.

Also contributing to Spruce Creek’s success was senior Kayla Wheeler, who achieved an astounding 18-1 record in No. 2 singles and 18-5 in No. 1 doubles, proving to be a vital asset. And let’s not forget about Campbell Bundza, who showcased versatility with a 14-5 record across four singles positions and a commendable 5-1 in No. 2 doubles.

A Celebration of Achievement

Looking ahead, the anticipation builds for the 2024-25 Volusia-Flagler High School Sports Awards, set to take place on June 2 at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach. This event promises to be a grand occasion honoring nominees and winners across all seasons: fall, winter, and spring sports alike.
