COLLEGE STATION, Texas – San Diego State University’s Shaquena Foote highlighted another strong performance during the NCAA West Quarterfinals on Saturday at E.B. Cushing Stadium. Following her record-setting run on Thursday, Foote delivered once more in the 400 meters, clocking in at 51.38 seconds. This time secures her position as the fifth best in the program’s history, with three of the top five times now attributed to her. Finishing second in her heat and seventh overall, Foote’s impressive performance has propelled her to the upcoming NCAA Outdoor Championships set to take place in Eugene, Oregon.
The Aztec women’s track and field team also competed in the 4×100 relay, where the squad consisting of Mikaela Warr, Jada Pierre, Olivia Hicks, and Aji Mbye finished with a time of 44.72 seconds. This placed them sixth in their heat and 20th overall. They managed to finish ahead of competitors including Cal State Fullerton and Washington State, while Arkansas did not complete the race.
In the 400 hurdles, Anna Mager clocked in at 59.95 seconds, ending her heat in seventh place and finishing 23rd overall. Mager had a notable performance, coming in ahead of UC Irvine’s Jazzmine Davis, who recorded a time of 1:00.29. Meanwhile, Charlize James did not start in the 100 hurdles event.
As the Aztecs prepare for the next stage, their focus will shift to Eugene, where the NCAA Semifinals await. The opportunity to compete at this high level demonstrates the hard work and dedication showcased by the student-athletes of San Diego State.
