State Golf Tournaments: A Green Dream Awaits

The upcoming state golf tournaments are set for May 19-20, with different competitions happening at stunning courses across the region. Golfers from the 6A and 5A divisions will be swinging their clubs at the OGA Golf Course in Woodburn, while those competing in the 4A category will head to Tokatee Golf Club in McKenzie. Not to be outdone, the 3A/2A/1A boys’ tournament will take place at the picturesque Trysting Tree Golf Club located in Corvallis.

On the girls’ side, the 6A and 5A tournaments will unfold at the serene Emerald Valley Golf Club in Creswell, while the 4A/3A/2A/1A girls will also make their way to Trysting Tree Golf Club, where many dreams may come true!

All Eyes on the Tennis Courts

May 22-24. The entire 6A tennis tournament for boys and girls will be hosted at the Tualatin Hills Recreation Center, making it a fantastic venue for budding tennis stars to fight for glory. The 4A tennis tournament is scheduled for Oregon State University on the same dates, while the 5A tournament starts at the West Hills Recreation Center and will transition to Tualatin Hills for the later rounds on May 23-24.

Lincoln’s Winning Streak Continues

Cayden Laughton won the boys’ singles championship after a thrilling match against teammate Heath Silver. In the boys’ doubles finals, a talented pair from Lincoln, Roland Alexander and Charlie Torch, clinched the PIL title against Grant’s duo, Miles Porter and Rafael Valverde.

Other notable achievements include Lincoln securing third and fourth places in doubles, with Evan Solodky and Jonathan Wilkinson finishing third. Not to be left behind, Central Catholic’s Jonah Black also made his mark by winning the individual title in the Mt. Hood Conference boys’ tennis, undoubtedly putting him on the path to state competition.

Girls’ Tennis Showcases Talent Galore

Carlyta Barfield of Benson bagged the PIL girls’ tennis individual championship, defeating Elizabeth Sacks of Grant, while Adeline Backer from Grant punched her ticket to state by securing third place. In girls’ doubles, it was Lincoln’s duo of Sitara Soman and Reese Hefele who triumphed, winning the PIL crown. Central Catholic’s Erica Zanavich and Coco Stanford secured a commendable second place in girls’ doubles from the Mt. Hood Conference.

Golf Triumphs Fueling Ambitions

Sam Faherty, Riley Mortola, and Jack Robertson helped lead the team to victory. On an individual level, Quinn Hefele from Lincoln took home the PIL individual title in boys’ golf, ensuring his spot at the state tournament. Not to be outdone, Ethan Chang from Lincoln finished second in the PIL standings, also earning a spot, while Otto LaPrete from Ida B. Wells advanced as an individual from the regional tournament.
