York Welcomes New Coaching Talent to Women’s Basketball Team

York is buzzing with excitement as news breaks that the York College women’s basketball team has welcomed former Dallastown coach Jay Rexroth as a part-time assistant coach. Coach Katie Kilpatrick is thrilled about this addition to her coaching staff. When it comes to experience and basketball smarts, Rexroth brings a wealth of talent to the table!

A Storied Coaching Career

Rexroth’s coaching journey has been impressive, to say the least. He recently wrapped up an inspiring stint at Dallastown High School, where he not only led the girls’ basketball team to a YAIAA championship, but also secured a spot in the illustrious PIAA State 6A Girls Tournament. That’s right, folks—this coach has his eyes set on winning big!

His coaching career in the YAIAA (York-Adams Interscholastic Athletic Association) kicked off in the 1987-88 season, primarily at Dallastown. Over the years, Rexroth has cultivated a reputation that speaks volumes about his skills, and Kilpatrick couldn’t be happier to have him on board.

A Unique Connection

In an interesting twist, Kilpatrick has a personal connection to Rexroth. She actually attended Dallastown while Rexroth was coaching her three older brothers on the boys’ team. Fast forward to today, and both are united again in the world of basketball, but this time focusing on empowering the next generation of female athletes.

A Winning Track Record

Rexroth isn’t just hanging up his coaching shoes either; he has a considerable past leading boys’ basketball as well. He served as the head boys’ coach at Dallastown starting in 1993 after a six-year stint as an assistant coach. His time with the boys’ program saw him clinch the YAIAA Boys’ Championships in 1996 and 2001, proving he knows how to get results!

After branching out to assist the Dover High School girls’ basketball team for three years, Rexroth returned to Dallastown as the girls’ head coach in the 2016-17 season. Throughout this nine-year tenure, Rexroth guided the girls’ team to five YAIAA championships from 2019 to 2025 and led them to the state tournament seven times, making it all the way to the Elite 8 on three occasions. That’s an impressive legacy with over 400 combined wins under his belt!

More Than Just Basketball

The sports love runs deep for Rexroth; he’s also served as the assistant coach for the Dallastown Boys’ Tennis team since 2009. This multi-faceted coach certainly knows how to juggle different sports while impacting young athletes’ lives positively. His transition to York College presents an exciting new opportunity for him to impart his vast knowledge and experience while nurturing an entirely new group of players.

Looking Ahead

The good news is that Rexroth won’t be wasting any time getting started at York College. He’s jumping right in, ready to make a difference and build a strong program alongside Coach Kilpatrick. This partnership could be a game-changer for York College women’s basketball, bringing in fresh perspectives and a winning mentality that has already proven successful.
