A Closer Look at the Nominees
The nominees have been handpicked by a dedicated team, ensuring the most deserving swimmers are recognized. Leading the pack is Vincy Chung, who has nabbed the coveted T&G Super Team selection for the third consecutive year. This winter, Chung dominated the pool, winning an impressive 18 races. Notably, she placed fourth in the challenging 100 breaststroke and seventh in the 200 individual medley at the Division 1 state meet. Her prowess doesn’t stop there; she also triumphed in the 200 IM at the Mid-Wach championships, finishing an astonishing 9.22 seconds ahead of her closest competitor.
But that’s not all—Chung is equally impressive at the Central/West championships, coming in third in the 100 breaststroke and fourth in the 200 IM, marking her as a serious contender. As a co-captain next season, she highlighted her journey at the team’s end-of-season banquet while celebrating her accomplishments.
Sophomore Sensation
Sophia Davis had an equally breathtaking sophomore season, winning the 200 individual medley by over 16 seconds and taking second in the 200 freestyle at the Mid-Wach championships. Her third-place finish in the 500 free and eighth in the 200 free at the Central/West championships solidified her status, achieving school records in both events with mind-blowing times.
Skimming through the Competition
Dumas, another standout, made waves when she clinched the 100 backstroke title at the Mid-Wach championships with a time of 1:04.52, which earned her a spot in the competitive Division 2 state meet. Then we have Korenda, who is back for her second straight year on the T&G Super Team and delivered an impressive performance at the Division 2 state meet, finishing 18th in the 100 breaststroke. Her 1:12.62 school record time in the same event is simply commendable.
Kvaracein is also in the running for her second consecutive year; her participation in four events at the Division 1 state meet signals her determination and skill. Then there’s Laham, our Central Mass. Swimmer of the Year, who dominated multiple events at the Mid-Wach championships, achieving the fastest times in both the 50 and 100 free. This is just a peek into the extraordinary talent that Central Mass high schools have to offer.
Highlighting More Talented Swimmers!
Also vying for recognition are McMahon, who marked a personal best in both the 100 breast and butterfly, and Moury, who slashed almost four seconds off her personal record in the 200 freestyle at the Mid-Wach championships. Pedorella made a significant personal achievement at the Division 2 state meet, coming in 15th in the 100 butterfly.
As we cheer on these remarkable athletes, let’s not forget Reeves, celebrating her second T&G Super Team selection! Her achievements in the 100 breast and butterfly, combined with her being a co-MVP, are noteworthy and inspire others as well. And lastly, Rogers, who has shown her diving prowess as the Central Mass. Diver of the Year, setting school records for six and eleven dives.
