With exciting performances and stunning wins, the atmosphere has been electric as students battled it out for glory on the greens.

Ambrose High School Dominates the 3A Scene

First up, let’s celebrate the ladies from Ambrose High School! Their girls golf team has once again proven to be a force to be reckoned with, snagging their third consecutive team trophy. Leading the charge was none other than senior powerhouse Ashley Von Behren, who secured her second straight individual state championship. Just picture this: she finished the tournament with a remarkable score of 5-over 155, claiming victory by a whopping seven strokes over her closest competitors, Jayden Parker from Soda Springs and Kamryn Mansfield from Grace.

The rest of the Ambrose girls put in a solid performance, finishing the tournament with a combined score of 755 and leaving Soda Springs trailing by 29 strokes! Another notable player for Ambrose was Ella McNicholas, who wrapped up her tournament with a solid seventh place finish at 184 (+34).

Melba’s Freshman Star Shines Bright

Switching gears to the boys’ tournament, Melba High School made history with a fantastic showing. Freshman Kelton Bodily emerged as the individual champion after an impressive round, finishing at 3-under 69 and sealing the victory with a two-day total of 143 (-1). This remarkable win marks the very first individual state championship for Melba’s golf program in either boys or girls competitions—a truly ground-breaking achievement!

The boys from Melba also shone brightly, earning second place overall with a total score of 684 (+108). It was Declo that took home the boys team championship trophy, finishing just slightly ahead at 678 (+102). Other noteworthy local finishes included Colter Bodily and Cascade’s Cole Olson, who both tied for ninth place at 162 (+18).

Kimberly High School Reigns Supreme in 4A

Over in the 4A classification, the Kimberly High School girls had a remarkable run, winning the state tournament by a jaw-dropping 59 strokes over Filer with a team score of 726. The boys team didn’t want to be left out of the spotlight, either! They also clinched the 4A championship, finishing with a score of 639 and defeating Snake River by a solid 15 strokes.

When it comes to individual performances, Wyatt Williams from Kimberly has shown us that he’s got the game. He bagged his second consecutive 4A individual title after finishing at even par. This victory was especially sweet as he led by a staggering seven strokes over Teton’s Bjorn Lindquist.

As we celebrate the girls, let’s not forget Filer’s own Tanli Lemoyne, who outperformed her competition with a score of 152 (+8) to take the 4A girls individual medalist honors—finishing a whopping 14 shots ahead of Kimberly’s duo, Shelby Heider and Ellyce Simmons. Local talent Lucy Hickey from Weiser stood strong, tying for fourth place with a score of 171 (+27).

Scheduled Changes for the Future

As we look forward to what’s next, it’s important to note that the 6A and 5A classifications for Idaho high school golf have been moved to the fall mid-season. This change has been in place for three years now and continues to shape the competitive landscape for our talented young golfers.

With such strong performances from our Treasure Valley teams and individuals, it’s safe to say that the future of golf in this area is looking incredibly bright. We can’t wait to see what next season holds!
