FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The New England Patriots kicked off their rookie minicamp on Friday, but the team’s defensive coordinator, Terrell Williams, was noticeably absent. Williams has been working from home in Detroit over the past few weeks due to doctor’s orders related to a recent health scare. During a video call with reporters, he stated, “I had a health scare, but I also want to make it clear that I’m away from the building, but I’m not away from the team.” He reassured fans by adding, “I’m doing good. I’m not away from the football team. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get back soon and just be in the building and be around everyone.”
In Williams’ absence, inside linebackers coach Zak Kuhr is stepping in to cover his duties. Williams was hired shortly after Mike Vrabel took over as the head coach of the Patriots in January and has a history of working with Vrabel as they both spent six years together on the staff of the Tennessee Titans.
The rookie minicamp marks a crucial time for the Patriots as they begin to assess new talent and make preparations for the upcoming season. The absence of a key coaching figure like Williams adds an extra layer of challenge during this pivotal time.
In other NFL news, discussions are heating up regarding various teams’ roster decisions. The Pittsburgh Steelers’ general manager, Omar Khan, shared on Friday that he does not view the decision to part ways with wide receiver George Pickens as a disappointment. Meanwhile, the Cleveland Browns have been making moves regarding their running back situation this offseason, notably without involving their star player, Nick Chubb. General manager Andrew Berry expressed a lack of optimism about Chubb’s return in 2025.
As the offseason progresses, teams are actively reshaping their rosters and preparing for the upcoming season, making for an exciting period in the NFL.
