NORMAN, Okla. – In a promising start to the NCAA Norman Regional, Sam Houston golfers Grace Jin and Amelia Guo found themselves in good positions after completing 36 holes on the first day of competition at OU’s Jimmie Austin Golf Course. Due to potential adverse weather in the area, the tournament schedule was adjusted, requiring players to complete two rounds on Monday. A decision on whether to play the final 18 holes on Tuesday or Wednesday will be made by tournament officials.

During the opening round, both Jin and Guo performed admirably, scoring 74 (+2). In the second round, Jin improved her score to 71, bringing her total for the day to 145 (+1), putting her in a tie for 21st place. Guo, on the other hand, finished the afternoon round with a score of 73, placing her two shots back of Jin in a tie for 32nd place overall.

As for the team leaderboard, the top four spots are currently held by Stanford, Northwestern, Michigan State, and Baylor. Tulsa and North Carolina are locked in a tie for fifth place, while the regional host, Oklahoma, is sitting in seventh place, trailing by just one shot from breaking into the tie with Tulsa and North Carolina.

The competition is fierce, as only the top five teams will move on to the NCAA Championship, alongside the top individual medalist from a non-advancing team. With the weather forecast hanging in the air, both players and teams will be looking to stay sharp as decision time approaches. The excitement continues as everyone watches to see how the tournament unfolds.
