Weekly Honors Celebrate Top High School Boys Tennis Stars
This week, tennis enthusiasts in Madison have plenty to cheer about as five remarkable high school boys tennis players have been recognized for their outstanding performances on the court. With spectators and fans eagerly following the season, it’s time to highlight the talents shining through in the local leagues.
Among the honorees is the star performer Bird Owen Bird, who truly showcased his skills as the No. 2 singles player for Madison Memorial. What a week it has been for him! Bird won all four of his matches, demonstrating grit and determination. Notably, during the Boys Varsity Quad on April 19, he bested competitors from Madison La Follette, Plymouth, and Monroe, winning all three matches in straight sets. But the excitement didn’t stop there! On April 21, Bird faced a tough challenge against Aashrith Kamini from Sun Prairie United. After dropping the first set 6-3, he rebounded beautifully, winning the next two sets 6-4 and 10-4. That victory kept his undefeated streak intact—a true testament to his resilience!
Taking a Step Back but Bouncing Back Higher
Another noteworthy mention is Maddox Bradfield, the No. 1 singles player for Madison Country Day/Abundant Life/St. Ambrose. After tasting his first loss of the season on April 15, he made an impressive comeback. Maddox confidently defeated University Lake School’s Neva Klein with a commanding score of 6-0, 6-0. It’s impressive to note that about half of Maddox’s matches have been against players who have qualified for the upcoming state tournament, and he’s already slain two of them. His performance continues to shine bright!
Making Waves in Doubles
Moving on to the doubles circuit, AJ Nelson is making waves this season alongside his partner Anders Rasmussen. This talented duo kicked off their campaign with a rocky 3-5 start, but they’ve turned things around dramatically, currently enjoying a three-match win streak while remaining undefeated in their conference. Not just a doubles specialist, AJ also grabbed a singles victory against Watertown’s Logan Buehler, sealing the match with scores of 3-6, 6-4, and 10-4 on April 17. It’s clear he’s heating up as the season progresses!
Dominating in Doubles Slot
Another dynamic pair making headlines is Ari Vloch and his doubles partner Jorah Gandjui. Competing as the No. 2 doubles team at the Waukesha South Quad, they had a fantastic outing, defeating teams from Edgerton, Burlington, and Waukesha South. They’re certainly riding a wave of momentum, having only dropped a total of two games across three matches. Their teamwork is evident, and it’s thrilling to see the camaraderie they bring to the court!
From Struggles to Triumph
Last but definitely not least, we have Everett Reid, who kicked off the season with a rough 1-3 record but is now savoring a stunning three-match winning streak. His recent victory against Janesville Craig’s Nolan Schoof was nothing short of spectacular, as he delivered a decisive 6-0, 6-0 win. Everett’s experience as a four-time state qualifier is clearly paying off, and he’s proving that persistence truly does pay off!
