Girls’ Team Steals the Show
The atmosphere was electrifying as the Douglas girls’ team sprinted, jumped, and hurled their way to a fantastic second-place finish overall, racking up a total of 37 team points. They managed to edge out Carson by just one point, showcasing their competitive spirit and determination right from the start of the season!
Star performances came from several athletes, with Lucy Nord leading the pack. She dominated the 1,600-meter race, clocking in at an impressive 5:50.57. Not far behind was fellow teammate Amy Van Wagenen, who was busy finishing strong in the 800-meter race with a time of 2:39.44.
Speed Demons on the Track
In the 100-meter dash, it was Anna Patmont who claimed the spotlight, finishing first in just 12.77 seconds. Not to be outdone, Katelyn Coons also made waves by securing third place with a speedy 12.90 seconds. But that’s not all! Both field events and running events contributed to the team’s success. Junior Kaitlyn Molyneux soared to second place in the high jump, clearing a height of four feet six inches. Senior Stella White impressively took third in the pole vault, reaching a height of 10 feet 6 inches. The long jump event also saw exciting performances, with Strabala leaping an astounding 17 feet 3 inches for a win. Meanwhile, teammates Kaylee Bradford and Patmont wrapped up the top five with commendable finishes.
Boys’ Team Holds Their Ground
On the boys’ side, the Douglas boys’ team finished strong in third place, garnering a total of 21 team points. CJ Bera showcased his speed in the sprints, finishing third in both the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.63 seconds and the 200-meter race at 23.70 seconds. He also put in a commendable effort in the 400-meter, grabbing third with a time of 52.85 seconds.
Senior standout Luke Davis heated up the track with a victory in the 800-meter run, finishing at 2:06.69. He wasn’t done yet, claiming a second-place finish in the 1,600 meters at 4:48.73. The field events saw Michael Cahill dominating the shot put with a powerful throw of nearly 40 feet. Additionally, Denmarc Williams and Alex Winter held their own in the discus, coming in second and third, respectively.
