INDIANAPOLIS – More than 300 prospects have gathered here for the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, but it’s not just about who gets picked in the draft. General managers are also preparing for the upcoming free agency period set to kick off in just two weeks. The New York Giants are firmly focused on finding their next quarterback, and they plan to explore every option available, including drafting a player or trading for a veteran.

Joe Schoen, the Giants’ general manager, addressed the media during his pre-combine press conference this past Tuesday. He pointed out that this week presents a good opportunity to explore potential trade scenarios and see how other teams are thinking in terms of deals. He emphasized that the Giants would “look under every rock” when searching for a quarterback. If they do decide to draft a young QB, Schoen wants to pair him with a seasoned veteran to guide his transition into the professional game.

Schoen stated, “We have the resources to improve the roster, and that’s what is exciting about this time of the year.” With several key players, such as Greg Van Roten, Darius Slayton, and Jason Pinnock, becoming unrestricted free agents, he added, “Two weeks from now, the roster will look different.”

While discussions about various quarterbacks continue, including veteran Matthew Stafford, Schoen made it clear that the focus is on improving the quarterback position. He was adamant, saying, “It’s the most important position in football. We need to look through free agency, trades, draft, whatever it is, and we need better play out of the position.” The Giants struggled with injuries last season, using multiple quarterbacks, and Schoen recognizes the need for a reliable starter who can stay healthy.

In preparation for the draft, Schoen mentioned they have done their homework on players like Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders, while also keeping an eye on other prospects. He noted the importance of finding quarterbacks who can perform in crucial moments, stating, “You can’t manufacture” the right quarterback.

Schoen anticipates engaging with other team officials to discuss trade possibilities and potential salary cap issues that could affect player availability. On the injury front, he shared good news about Dexter Lawrence and Andrew Thomas, both key players who have been recovering well and looking strong.

As the combine progresses, the Giants continue to examine every option available to ensure they find the right quarterback to lead their team into the future.
