In Athens, Georgia, the Georgia Bulldogs pulled off an exciting victory against the Florida Gators, defeating them 88-83 on Tuesday night. The game had its dramatic moments, especially when Georgia guard Blue Cain sank a crucial three-pointer with just 47 seconds left on the clock. This shot came after the Gators surged back with a 13-point run, taking their first lead of the night after trailing by as much as 26 points in the first half.
The Bulldogs had a solid lead for much of the game, but the Gators’ impressive rally, which brought them from a 78-67 disadvantage to an 80-78 lead, added tension to the final moments. However, Cain’s timely three-pointer put Georgia back in front, ending Florida’s run.
With this win, Georgia improved its record to 17-11 overall and 5-10 in the Southeastern Conference, giving them a boost in their quest for their first NCAA Tournament berth since 2015. The Bulldogs’ victory also snapped a 12-game losing streak to Florida and marked coach Mike White’s first win against his former team, having been 0-6 in previous matchups.
Florida, now sitting at 24-4 and 11-4 in the conference, had a standout performance from Will Richard, who scored a career-high 30 points. Despite their strong effort, they fell short of completing another comeback after previously overcoming an eight-point deficit against LSU just a few days before.
Other notable performances included Silas Demary Jr. leading Georgia with 21 points and Asa Newell contributing 15. Georgia fans celebrated their team’s hard-fought win by charging the court after the final buzzer, responding enthusiastically to the public address announcer’s request for Florida’s team to exit the court first.
Looking ahead, both teams will be back in action on Saturday night; Florida will host No. 12 Texas A&M, while Georgia will visit Texas.
