In Northwestern, excitement is brewing as Ben Fenell is set to potentially make his debut as a head football coach this fall. Fenell’s name is on the agenda for the Northwestern School Board meeting on Tuesday, where they will discuss his appointment as the new head coach of the football team.
Graduating from Northwestern in 2002, Fenell ended his high school playing career by participating in the prestigious Save An Eye all-star game back in 2003. After furthering his education at Edinboro University, he returned to his roots in the Northwestern area, taking on various coaching roles at schools such as Conneaut Valley, East, and Seneca. Most notably, last fall, he served as the offensive coordinator at Conneaut.
This announcement comes following the recent news that Mike Krahe has stepped down from his position as the head football coach at Cathedral Prep, leaving both Cathedral Prep and Maplewood in search of their next head football coach, while Northwestern seeks their own direction moving forward.
In addition to Fenell’s potential hiring, the Northwestern School Board will also address the return of Kara Gonzales for another season as head coach of the girls volleyball team, along with reappointing Rich Asmondy as the head coach of the cross country team.
As these decisions unfold, the community remains eager to see how Fenell will lead the football program. With a solid background and connections to Northwestern, many fans are hopeful he will bring fresh energy and success to the team.
