The Central Mass. High School Sports Awards is gearing up for a big night on June 25 at the DCU Center in Worcester, where they will announce the nominees for the Hometeam Football (Offense) Athlete of the Year. The live show will kick off at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6 p.m. for football fans to gather and celebrate local talent.

The nominees were chosen by staff of the Telegram & Gazette, with invaluable input from area football coaches. This event honors exceptional young athletes who have excelled on the gridiron this past season.

One standout player this year is Attaway, a quarterback who led the Hawks to an impressive 13-0 record and a Division 6 Super Bowl victory. Attaway completed 65% of his passes, racking up 1,841 yards and throwing 24 touchdowns along with just two interceptions. Equally impressive, he rushed for 1,600 yards and another 24 touchdowns.

The Rockets’ sophomore sensation, Belanger, had a fantastic season, rushing for 1,237 yards and scoring 20 touchdowns. His big moments included a thrilling last-minute 2-point conversion that secured a victory over Tantasqua.

Brochu from the Minutemen is another finalist, having rushed for 1,961 yards and an impressive 30 touchdowns. His contributions on defense were notable as well, achieving over 25 tackles during the season.

Edie is recognized not only for his defensive talent but also for his role as an offensive lineman, helping to protect the quarterback as the Hawks achieved a historic season.

Other remarkable players include Gallo, who led in passing yards, LaChapelle, who had an outstanding rushing record, and Gilmore, who made contributions across all areas of the game.

As the anticipation builds for the awards night, the achievements of all these talented athletes showcase the hard work and dedication that junior and high school football inspires in Central Massachusetts.
