Landis — In a significant event for South Rowan football, cornerback Tristian Littlejohn has signed with Gallaudet University, continuing the proud tradition of the program. The news comes as Littlejohn joins teammates Gavin Bisco and Zach Barham in moving on to the next level of their athletic careers. Littlejohn’s journey is particularly inspiring, as he has a noteworthy story of resilience and determination.

Littlejohn is the grandson of Joe Lewis Littlejohn, a cherished supporter of South Rowan football who passed away in 2022. Even though Tristian has around 85 to 90 percent hearing loss, this has not hindered his abilities on the field. He has exemplified talent and grit throughout his senior season, earning accolades such as Player of the Game multiple times. His defensive skills have been vital in games, including a remarkable playoff performance where he registered six tackles.

South’s head coach Chris Walsh has known Littlejohn for four years and commends him for his ability to adapt and overcome challenges. The communication hurdles on the field were significant, particularly when it became necessary to relay plays amidst the chaos of game day.

Littlejohn demonstrated versatility and toughness as he suited up, tackling larger opponents despite being only 5-foot-11, 160 pounds. Coach Walsh and assistant Austin Chrismon knew of Gallaudet’s commitment to accommodating students with hearing impairments and made sure to advocate for Littlejohn.

Gallaudet University is a unique institution, being the first school established for the education of the deaf and hard of hearing. With a dedicated football program, the university uses cutting-edge technology, such as a special helmet, to ensure clear communication during games. This level of support allows athletes like Littlejohn to enhance their college experience both academically and athletically.

As he embarks on this new chapter, Littlejohn is not only pursuing his passion for football but also receiving a quality education. Coach Walsh emphasized the importance of this opportunity, stating, “We couldn’t be prouder of him; he’s going to represent South Rowan High School and South Rowan football exceptionally well.” With Littlejohn now affiliated with Gallaudet, fans in Landis and China Grove can look forward to cheering on a promising young athlete.
