In Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Friday’s college softball action was filled with excitement as ranked teams faced stunning defeats, dramatic rallies, and impressive performances.

One of the biggest surprises came when Louisiana Tech stunned No. 4 Oklahoma State with a solid 6-1 victory. The Lady Techsters (2-0) used a productive second inning, which saw them score four runs after capitalizing on mistakes from the Cowgirls. Oklahoma State’s pitcher Kyra Aycock struggled under pressure, giving away back-to-back bases-loaded walks that resulted in two runs. The team then faced a throwing error that led to another two runs, putting them in a tough spot early on.

Allie Floyd of Louisiana Tech delivered a strong performance in the circle, allowing only one run on seven hits throughout the game while striking out four batters. Despite Oklahoma State having chances, they left nine runners stranded and could only manage one run in the sixth inning, led by Karli Godwin‘s double.

Meanwhile, in another upset, Mississippi State took down No. 10 Texas Tech 3-1 in extra innings at the same tournament. After a scoreless start, the Bulldogs struck hard in the eighth inning, scoring three runs thanks to clutch hits from Kiarra Sells and Sierra Sacco, among others. Texas Tech, despite having ace NiJaree Canady on the mound, struggled offensively and managed only three hits during the game.

Other notable games included No. 7 Texas A&M overcoming No. 19 Baylor 10-7 in a thrilling comeback, and No. 8 Duke defeating No. 24 Mississippi State 8-0 while showcasing a powerful offense and tight defense.

As the tournament continues, teams are eager to bounce back and improve their standings. The action promises more surprises and upsets as the college softball season heats up.
