AUSTIN, Texas – The excitement was palpable in the air as around 50 high school football players from the Austin area made their dreams come true by signing athletic scholarships on National Signing Day, which took place this past Wednesday, February 1st. This annual event marks a significant milestone for young athletes looking to further their football careers at the collegiate level.

One of the standout players was Cody Stoever, who earned the title of two-time American-Statesman offensive player of the year. The skilled quarterback from Wimberley signed with Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas. Stoever expressed his enthusiasm, stating that he will continue to play quarterback for a program that recently claimed the NCAA Division II national championship in 2023.

Several other notable athletes from the Central Texas region have also signed to continue their playing careers. Daeshon Morgan, a defensive end from Vandegrift, is set to join Arizona State, while Manor wide receiver Jordan Clark will head to Rice. Additionally, Caius Coy from Westwood plans to play as a defensive end for Sam Houston State. The local football landscape also saw talented players like Jared Risinger, an offensive lineman from Westlake, commit to Texas Permian-Basin, and Ty Thames, a linebacker from Wimberley, sign with Rice.

Many of the standout athletes from the area had already signed during the early signing period on December 4, but the latest signing day provided an opportunity for even more students to take that significant step toward their football futures.
