New York Jets Hire Tanner Engstrand as Offensive Coordinator

New York City is abuzz with the recent announcement that the Jets have hired Tanner Engstrand as their new offensive coordinator. The team made this move official on Friday, and it marks a key addition to first-year head coach Aaron Glenn’s coaching staff. Engstrand, who previously served as the passing game coordinator for the Detroit Lions, is expected to help transform the Jets’ struggling offense.

Engstrand joins defensive coordinator Steve Wilks and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo in what Glenn hopes will be a solidified leadership team. The Jets offense ranked 24th in points scored last season, improving slightly from the 23rd ranking in 2018. It has been quite some time since the Jets had a top-10 scoring offense, dating back to 2008 when Brian Schottenheimer was the offensive coordinator and Brett Favre was the quarterback. Engstrand will want to change that narrative.

During his time with the Lions, Engstrand witnessed firsthand the success of the team’s offense under Ben Johnson, who departed to become head coach of the Chicago Bears. The Lions were the number one scoring offense in 2024 and ranked high in the previous two seasons as well. Now, Engstrand must recreate some of that magic with the Jets, leveraging talented players like wide receiver Garrett Wilson and running back Breece Hall.

As the Jets prepare for the upcoming season, all eyes will also be on what happens with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. His future will be a significant focus, but the team has a solid foundation with young talent on the roster.

In other NFL news, Adam Thielen of the Panthers is hinting at another year of play as he approaches 35. Meanwhile, the Cowboys are reportedly hiring Klayton Adams from the Cardinals as their new offensive coordinator, and the Buccaneers have promoted Josh Grizzard to the same role. The Saints are also looking to finalize their head coach position, with Kellen Moore as a leading candidate.

This offseason is shaping up to be an exciting and pivotal time for many teams as they look to improve their squads and make a serious run next season.
