Circleville Welcomes Back Jay Sharrett as New Football Coach

Circleville, a small city that takes pride in its community and sports, has made a significant announcement regarding its high school football program. Jay Sharrett, a former successful coach with an impressive track record, has been named the new head coach of the Circleville Tigers, pending approval from the school board. This decision comes after Sharrett enjoyed a two-year break from coaching, during which he traveled, watched football games, and spent quality time with family.

Sharrett, who graduated from Circleville in 1984, had an outstanding 20-season tenure at Pickerington Central where he racked up 211 wins against 42 losses. His accomplishments include winning 17 OCC championships, eight regional titles, and two Division I state championships in 2017 and 2019. He led Central to several strong seasons, even finishing as state runners-up in 2006, 2011, and 2020.

As the new coach, Sharrett aims to guide the Tigers to success similar to what he achieved at Central. Athletic director Brandon Wright expressed confidence in Sharrett’s capabilities, stating that he brings “an unrivaled record of success, dedication, and leadership” to the program. His deep connections to Circleville and commitment to developing young athletes make him an excellent choice for this position.

Sharrett takes over from Steve Evans, who had a record of 12-29 over his four seasons. The Circleville Tigers have made two playoff appearances in recent years, reaching the playoffs in 2020 and 2022, although they had not qualified since 2013 prior to the expansion of postseason teams.

Reflecting on his return to coaching, Sharrett shared, “I knew I would coach football again. I didn’t know if it would be two, three, or four years away, but when the Circleville job came open, I couldn’t pass it up.” With the school board’s approval on the horizon, the community is eager to see how Sharrett will lead the Tigers in the coming seasons.
