Chamblee, Georgia, is buzzing with excitement as Ed Reed, a Hall of Fame safety known for his game-changing abilities on the field, has been hired as the team’s new offensive coordinator. Announced on Monday, this move marks Reed’s return to coaching after a brief stint in the professional league.
Reed, who terrorized opposing offenses during his impressive 12-year NFL career, will now be devising game plans to challenge defenses at Chamblee High School. Known for his high football IQ, he seems ready to transition from defense to shaping offensive strategies. The school’s administration recognizes his talent, especially following their success in hiring another former Baltimore Raven, Jamal Lewis, as the director of college recruiting last year.
Notably, Reed’s connection to the program runs deeper than his coaching position. His son, Edward III, is already making a name for himself as a senior wide receiver and defensive back at Chamblee. During a recent game against Towers, Edward III showcased his skills with a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, a blocked field goal, and a blocked punt. He is quickly building his own legacy, following in his father’s impressive footsteps.
This marks Reed’s second coaching position, having previously served as an assistant defensive backs coach for the Buffalo Bills in 2016. His time with the Bills ended after a coaching change, but he continued to pursue opportunities in football. He also had a brief chance at becoming the head coach for Bethune-Cookman, which fell through as the school declined to finalize his contract.
In addition to coaching, Reed has experience in administrative roles. In early 2020, he accepted a position as the chief of staff for the football program at his alma mater, the University of Miami. Over his illustrious NFL career, he amassed 64 interceptions, ranking seventh all-time, and recorded seven touchdowns off those interceptions. A nine-time Pro Bowler and five-time All-Pro, Reed was enshrined in the Hall of Fame in 2019.
With Reed now at the helm of the offense, Chamblee High School can expect an exciting season ahead as they look to leverage his incredible football intellect and experience on the field.
