Austin Teams Ready for High School Football Playoffs

AUSTIN — With the regular season now in the rearview mirror, high school football teams across Texas are gearing up for the state playoffs. The quest to play at AT&T Stadium in Arlington is set to begin this Thursday and will continue through the weekend. Many teams in the KXAN viewing area are eager to take the field, hoping to secure a chance at a state championship.

In Class 6A Division I, Westlake (9-1) is slated to host Vista Ridge (6-4) at 7 p.m. Friday at Chaparral Stadium. Meanwhile, fellow powerhouse Lake Travis (9-1) travels a short distance to collide with Round Rock (8-2), also kicking off at 7 p.m. Friday.

The 6A Division II matchups will see Vandegrift (9-1) hosting Austin High (5-5) at Monroe Stadium at 7 p.m. Friday, while Dripping Springs (7-3) takes on McNeil (5-5) at Tiger Stadium at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Moving down to Class 5A, several Austin-area teams will be hitting the road for their first playoff games. Rouse (6-4) is heading to Dallas to face off against Highland Park (9-1), while Weiss (8-2) travels to Angleton for their matchup. Anderson (7-3) is set to compete against La Porte (7-3) at Abshire Stadium in Deer Park. Cedar Park (6-4) and Georgetown (9-1) will both have home games, starting at 7 p.m. Friday.

In 5A Division II, Liberty Hill (8-2) and Bastrop (8-2) will be hosting games, with Liberty Hill facing SA Sam Houston (5-5) at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Bastrop competing against SA Lanier (5-5) at the same time. Meanwhile, Elgin (5-5) and Pflugerville (7-3) will be traveling to San Antonio.

The playoffs don’t stop with the 5A teams, as Class 4A Division I features a showdown between Austin LBJ (10-0) and Fredericksburg (4-6) at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Marble Falls, while Wimberley (8-2) kicks off against Pearsall (2-8) at 7 p.m. Thursday at Alamo Stadium.
