High School Football Playoffs Heat Up in Wisconsin

The excitement is building in Appleton, Wisconsin, as the WIAA high school football playoffs head into the second round. As teams battle for a chance to make history, some standout players have been making quite an impact on the field. Here’s a look at some of the leading candidates for the Post-Crescent player of the year, all still vying for postseason glory.

Among the seniors, one impressive defensive lineman stands out. With 99 total tackles, including 20 for loss and six sacks, he has been a force on defense. His contributions also include an interception return for a touchdown.

Another senior, a Wisconsin commit, has racked up 962 rushing yards on 94 carries, averaging an incredible 10.2 yards per carry. He has found the end zone 15 times and added nine catches for 136 yards and a touchdown to his name. On top of that, he has a kickoff return for a touchdown and has made 22 tackles, with one interception on defense.

Then there’s the senior quarterback/linebacker who has thrown for 891 yards with 10 touchdowns and rushed for another 307 yards. He has recorded 60 tackles on defense, highlighted by two sacks and a fumble recovery.

The Tigers’ senior running back and linebacker have also been a force, gaining 1,144 yards and scoring 20 touchdowns while making 69 tackles on the other side of the ball.

In addition, a senior quarterback/defensive back boasts impressive numbers: 2,385 passing yards on 142 completions, 25 touchdowns, and only four interceptions. He also has 577 yards rushing with eight touchdowns and 42 tackles, including seven interceptions.

Quarterbacking another team, one senior has passed for 2,601 yards and thrown 26 touchdowns, while another has thrown for 1,278 yards with 11 touchdowns alongside his rushing efforts of 448 yards.

It’s not just the seniors; juniors have made their marks too. One junior running back achieved 1,168 yards and 11 touchdowns, while another junior quarterback threw for 1,755 yards, contributing 17 touchdowns at a 60% completion rate.
