Little Elm, Texas – The community is mourning the loss of Aaron De La Torre, an assistant football coach and teacher at Denton Ryan High School, who passed away on Tuesday. His death was confirmed by school district officials and has led to the establishment of a GoFundMe page to support his family during this challenging time.

While the specific cause of death has not been disclosed, the news has sent shockwaves through the school community. Julie Zwahr, a spokesperson for Denton Independent School District, expressed the profound sense of loss felt by many. “The loss of Aaron De La Torre is a tragedy,” she stated. “He was a husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. Please pray for those whose lives he impacted and the Ryan High School family as they navigate this sudden and difficult loss.”

In a letter sent to families, Vernon Reeves, the principal of Ryan High School, described De La Torre’s passing as “unexpected” and shared that his family has requested privacy at this time. The school has arranged for counselors to support students who may be struggling with the news.

De La Torre had been a part of Ryan High School since 2018, serving as the team’s defensive coordinator. He made the decision to leave his position as head coach at his alma mater, Irving, to coach his son and to spend more time with family. During his time at Ryan, he was instrumental in leading the football program to a state title in 2020.

This season, the team is performing well with a record of 4-1 and currently holds the top spot in the Dallas-area Class 5A rankings as published in local news sources. The entire Ryan High School community is coming together to remember Coach De La Torre and the legacy he leaves behind.
