Brawl at High School Football Game Leads to Arrests in Citronelle, Alabama

A chaotic scene unfolded at a high school football game in Citronelle, Alabama, after tensions escalated into a physical fight between two parents following the Wildcats’ 14-7 victory over UMS-Wright. The incident resulted in criminal charges for two dads and the suspension of the Wildcats’ quarterback.

The individuals involved, identified as Chris Edmunds and Stephen Byrd, were arrested for disorderly conduct after a brawl broke out in the stands. This incident was captured on video, which shows the two men arguing before Edmunds punched Byrd after being physically restrained. Reports indicate that Daylon Edmunds, the Wildcats quarterback and son of Chris Edmunds, joined the fray, allegedly throwing a punch at Byrd as well.

Following these events, both parents have since posted bond. Citronelle’s Police Chief, Chris McLean, addressed the situation, stating, “While this is a disappointing situation, it is not a reflection of the Citronelle community, school, and football program.” He mentioned that the coach has worked hard to foster a positive environment for the Wildcats.

In the wake of the brawl, Daylon Edmunds was suspended from school for a week and removed from the football team. The Mobile County Public Schools District is currently conducting an investigation into the incident, with Athletic Director Brad Lowell describing the altercation as a minor incident that will be handled according to district policies.

As the local community processes the chaotic event, Chris Edmunds expressed his disappointment regarding the suspension of his son, calling it an “overboard” measure although recognizing the need for accountability.

The Citronelle football program now finds itself under scrutiny as it works to maintain its reputation amid this incident.
