In Willis, Texas, a recent high school football game has sparked controversy after some players from the local team were caught on video hitting their opponents with belts during a handshake line. This incident took place following Willis High School’s overwhelming victory of 77-0 against Cleveland High School last Friday evening.

The video shows several Willis players lightly hitting Cleveland players on the backside with belts as they went through the traditional post-game handshake, which is meant to promote sportsmanship. The outburst, later dubbed the “BTA challenge,” which stands for “belt to [expletive],” has gone viral on social media platforms like TikTok.

In response to the incident, the Willis Independent School District expressed their disappointment, stating, “We are deeply disappointed by the unsportsmanlike conduct displayed by some of our football players following last week’s game against Cleveland. This behavior does not reflect the values of our district.” The district confirmed they are communicating with the University Interscholastic League (UIL) and are reviewing proposed disciplinary actions.

On the other side of the situation, Cleveland Independent School has also taken steps, informing that official complaints have been filed with the UIL and the District Executive Committee, responsible for governance in Texas high school athletics. Cleveland’s district noted, “The district is aware of a video making the rounds on social media involving the Willis High School varsity football team and their inappropriate actions.”

In light of the shocking behavior, the students involved have been ordered to perform community service. The incident has raised questions about player conduct in high school sports and the importance of maintaining a respectful atmosphere on the field.
