In South Carolina, the landscape of high school football is heating up as the season continues to unfold. As of October 1, the On3 Massey Ratings top 25 list hasn’t seen much change, with only two teams switching places. Excitingly, eight out of the top ten teams are still undefeated after another round of action from September 26 through 28.
The Trojans have been on fire lately, scoring an impressive 67 points against Nation Ford and 59 against Catawba Ridge. Their offense now holds the title of the top-ranked unit in the state, setting the stage for a potential showdown against 22nd-ranked Clover on October 4. Meanwhile, the Silver Foxes have solidified their defense even further, completing their third straight shutout against Oceanside Collegiate Academy. Their latest performance included a season-high of 51 points against Landsharks.
The Yellow Jackets continue their winning streak and remain undefeated, led by standout players Aaron Brand and Amire White, who combined for 212 rushing yards and two touchdowns. The team has also tightened up its defense, allowing only 19 points combined across two previous games. Their resilience will be crucial as they face off against 25th-ranked Lexington.
Over in Gaffney, the Indians remain at number four in the rankings despite not playing a game last week. They continue their undefeated streak after a thrilling overtime win against Boiling Springs, thanks to stellar performances from Jayvon Gilmore and Chas Smith.
In another part of the ranking, the Green Wave has yet to taste defeat in the season, averaging a victory margin of 17.6 points across their games. Their latest match saw tight end Keshon Washington grab four touchdowns and quarterback Jayden Cummings pass for 368 yards and four touchdowns.
Hillcrest, despite their first loss against Greenwood, remains in good spirits as they gear up to face challenging opponents like 15th-ranked T.L. Hanna and 11th-ranked JL Mann. On the other hand, Spartanburg’s offense is thriving, scoring 96 points against their last two opponents, and they’ll need that momentum as they encounter several tough teams in the coming weeks.
Staying strong with a 6-0 record, Sumter’s defense deserves recognition for limiting their last two opponents to just a combined total of seven points. As they prepare to go against West Florence on October 3, all eyes will be on whether they can maintain their winning ways.
The season is shaping up to be explosive, and fans are eagerly watching to see who will emerge on top in this competitive landscape of South Carolina high school football.
