Austin Westlake Dominates Akins in High School Football Showdown

In Austin, Texas, the nationally ranked Austin Westlake Chaparrals kicked off their district play against the Akins Eagles on Thursday night. The game took place at 7:30 p.m., and fans tuned in to watch the action unfold live on the NFHS Network. As the game progressed, Westlake’s offense shined with strong performances leading to an impressive victory.

The Chaparrals came into the matchup eager to bounce back after a tough four-game stretch earlier in the season. Westlake showed their strength early, scoring their first touchdown just one minute into the game. Grady Bartlett had a short run to put the Chaparrals ahead 7-0. This early momentum continued as the team scored four more touchdowns in the first half, showcasing their powerful offense.

Running back Elijah Clark was a standout player, scoring two touchdowns in the first half. He ignited the crowd with an electrifying 15-yard run, securing his second touchdown with just under two minutes remaining in the half. The first half ended with the Chaparrals in complete control, leading 49-0.

Cal Livengood also contributed significantly, finding the end zone twice with one touchdown being a nifty catch-and-run play in the red zone. Westlake’s quarterback, Rees Wise, continued his impressive season, completing 68.5 percent of his passes and regularly connecting with top receivers like Lawson Grimes and Brady Wilhelm.

Meanwhile, the Eagles were struggling, particularly after their recent 63-0 loss to Dripping Springs in the previous week. Akins faced a tough start to the season, and this game proved to be another challenging matchup.

With this commanding victory, Westlake has reminded everyone of their place among the top teams in Texas, currently ranked No. 6 in the state and No. 18 nationally. Their next game will be one to watch as they continue to seek success in their district.
