High School Football Highlights from San Diego
San Diego, CA – In a thrilling weekend of high school football, two teams stood out as top contenders for the San Diego Section Open Division finals. Lincoln High School, with a record of 3-2, traveled over 500 miles to take on the 2023 Northern California 2-A champion Sacramento Grant. In an impressive display of skill, Lincoln came away with a dominating 49-19 victory. Junior Curtis led the charge with two rushing touchdowns, accumulating 130 yards on just eight carries. Not far behind him, Aden Jackson also contributed with two rushing touchdowns and 84 yards on 14 carries.
These performances helped the Hornets maintain their firm grip on the No. 1 spot in the SBLive/High Schools on SI San Diego Section Top-10 rankings. Meanwhile, the third-seeded Granite Hills had an equally impressive showing, beating Madison by a resounding score of 45-0. Max Turner shone in this game, rushing for 84 yards on 11 carries with three touchdowns. The Eagles showcased a well-rounded offense, with seven different players carrying the ball and catching passes. Quarterbacks Zac Benitez and Lathan Fry combined to complete 18 of 22 passes for a total of 175 yards and a touchdown.
As of September 30, 2024, the rankings show Lincoln firmly at No. 1, with Granite Hills looking to climb as they prepare to face Steele Canyon this Friday. Other teams to watch include Brawley, La Jolla, and Poway, each showcasing remarkable talent in the league.
