South Carolina High School Football Update

As the sun sets on October 1, the South Carolina high school football scene sees little change in the On3 Massey Ratings top 25 list. Only two teams have swapped places, but overall, the rankings show that eight of the top ten teams are remaining undefeated following another exciting round of games from September 26 to 28.

The On3 Massey Ratings, a trusted model used to analyze sports teams, takes into account game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory. Notably, two South Carolina teams have climbed into the nationwide top 100 rankings.

Leading the pack are the Northwestern Trojans, who have been on a scoring spree in their last couple of matchups. They dominated Nation Ford with a stunning score of 67-0 before following up with a solid 59-0 victory over Catawba Ridge. Their explosive offense now sits at the top of the state.

Meanwhile, the Clover Silver Foxes have made headlines with their stellar defense. They achieved their third consecutive shutout, most recently against Oceanside Collegiate Academy, while also proving effective on offense with a season-high of 51 points against the Landsharks. Their performance raises concerns for the upcoming challenge against 22nd-ranked Chapin.

The Yellow Jackets of Irmo are keeping their perfect record alive thanks to a strong game against Myrtle Beach. Stars Aaron Brand and Amire White rushed for a combined total of 212 yards, while receiver Donovan Murph racked up 145 yards through the air. Alongside their offensive prowess, Irmo’s defense held their last two opponents to a mere 19 points combined, setting the stage for their next game against 25th-ranked Lexington.

At number four, the Gaffney Indians remain undefeated after edging out Boiling Springs in a tight overtime match. Quarterback Jayvon Gilmore’s three touchdown passes were key, as was Chas Smith’s 106 rushing yards. They will next put their record on the line against Eastside.

Despite facing their first loss of the season, Hillcrest is determined to keep competing. The challenges ahead include matches against two ranked teams, T. L. Hanna and JL Mann, making their playoff aspirations anything but straightforward.

At the same time, the Spartanburg Vikings came back with a vengeance following their defeat, outscoring their last two opponents 96-12. Quarterback Trey Burke and running back Trenton Lynch made significant contributions in their latest game.

As the season progresses, the focus remains on the top teams, each vying for glory as the playoffs approach. The South Carolina high school football landscape is shaping up to be an exhilarating one! Stay tuned for more updates as teams battle it out on the field.
